Semaglutide (Wegovy/Ozempic)

Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist used to treat weight loss/management in obese and overweight patients. This is the newest medication, approved by the FDA, approved for weight loss. According to the New England Journal of Medicine study, individuals who took Semaglutide weekly injections were able to lose up to 15% of their body weight in as little as 6 months. 

 

Tirzepatide (Mounjaro)​

Tirzepatide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist used to treat weight loss/management in obese and overweight patients. This medication, approved by the FDA, is approved for weight loss. According to the New England Journal of Medicine study, individuals who took Tirzepatide weekly injections were able to lose up to 20% of their body weight in as little as 5 months. 

 

Selection Criteria​

  • Overweight (BMI>25) plus a comorbidity such as High blood pressure, high cholesterol, PCOS

  • Obesity (BMI>30)

  • Non-Diabetic

  • no personal or family history of multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2, thyroid cancer

  • GI related (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain or fullness, constipation

  • Allergic reactions

  • Retinal damage in individuals with heart disease

  • hypoglycemia
